The strength comes from the love inside me…

This week, we read an excerpt of Don’t Give Up ” by Mario Benedetti, a beautiful piece that talks about resilience and courage in the face of fear. We had a great conversation about moments when we have felt discouraged, or felt like giving up, as well as the people, habits, or mindsets that keep us pushing forward. Then, students got to work on their own version of writing a poem of resilience. Some chose to write a sort of letter to themselves, or imagined writing it to someone in their life who could use a kind word. This week’s pieces were filled with so much insight and empathy. I hope you enjoy reading them. And congratulations to this week’s published poets!

Don't Give Up Fernando

My dream is being an NFL

player and living life/

The strength comes from

the love inside me, the heart the

hate, that makes me

stronger when I feel down.

I get comfort from friends and

family, celebrating life, by

living. When it feels like work

is hard I want to go play my

PS5. The thing I have learned is

games are important to me

and change my perspective.

When someone I love is having

a hard day, I tell

them everyone has

a bad day. When I feel alone

I know that God is always with

me and my family and friends.

In the face of fear

I think of God. I am strong

like a dragon

Not Giving Up on Your Dream Isaac H.

When you feel

down

you don’t give

up on your dream

and

you keep

on going and

fulfill your dream

no matter what.

So whenever

you think you can’t

go anyway

just know, keep going

know how

to keep

on

going and push

yourself

and keep on going.
